Fairview Research Administration provide a range of services essential to the research process such as research pricing and billing, budget development and research recruitment mailings.
Research Pricing and Billing
The University of Minnesota and Fairview Health Services have defined a process for the purchase, use of, and payment for research related services provided by Fairview Health Services and University of Minnesota Physicians. There are two underlying principles of this process:
- Researchers contact Fairview Research Administration using the CTMS or the Fairview Research Pricing or Account Request form and describe the services required to conduct their research project. This includes distinguishing research from routine-care services.
- Fairview Research Administration will provide researchers with charge codes and research prices for requested tests or procedures. Once the study is IRB approved, Fairview Research Administration will set up the necessary Fairview research accounts and manage billing for protocol-related services.
Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS)
The CTMS utilized by Fairview Research Administration are owned and managed by Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at the University of MN. Fairview and the University of Minnesota Physicians use the CTMS to support research-billing compliance.
Investigational Drug Services (IDS)
The University of Minnesota Medical Center, Investigational Drug Service (IDS) is the pharmacy service responsible for managing and dispensing investigational drugs for Fairview Health Services and the Academic Health Center (AHC).
The IDS pharmacy is staffed by pharmacists and technicians who are specially trained in the research process. All studies involving investigational drugs must be registered with the IDS, even if the pharmacy is not doing the actual dispensing of study medications.
