Speaker(s):
Lin Butler, M.Div/C.T.S. Community Educator
Lin Butler has degrees in psychology and pastoral counseling. He spent six years providing youth and family counseling in Baltimore, MA, eight years in employee health promotion and employee assistance with the StayWell/EAR programs of Control Data Corporation, and five years with the American Red Cross managing their Worksite Satefy Training program in Minneapolis. He currently provides community education and program development for the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota.

Course Description:
Every year in the US, over 180,000 Americans will experience their first seizure. Multiple factors such as head trauma, stroke, brain tumors, and degenerative disease can contribute to increased risk for seizures. When it comes to the incidents of seizures and a diagnosis of epilepsy, athletes are no exception. In fact, due to their increased hazardous activity, they may be at greater risk than the general population. This unique training will prepare participants to distinguish different types of seizures, understand what can trigger a seizure, respond with confidence when a seizure occurs, know what NOT to do, and know when a seizure is a medical emergency. Discussion during the presentation will help to dispel many of the myths and misconceptions surrounding epilepsy as a chronic brain disorder.
