Fairview Southdale Hospital is a nationally recognized top 100 heart hospital. Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information and analysis, placed Fairview Southdale Hospital in the top 100 U.S. hospitals for cardiovascular care for the fourth time. 970 hospitals were evaluated based on their performance in treating heart failure, heart attacks, bypass surgery and angioplasties.


The nationally known Leapfrog Group named Fairview Southdale Hospital to its list of “Highest Value” hospitals in 2008. The organization evaluated 1,220 U.S. hospitals on their quality and resource utilization scores for open-heart surgery, coronary angioplasty, treatment of heart attack and pneumonia care.

Fairview Southdale Hospital is one of 13 in the nation to make the list, which includes having a top efficiency of care score for at least three of these four procedures and conditions. 2008 is the first year the hospital has been recognized by the group.

Physician partners included in the accolade include Minnesota Heart Clinic, a partnership of Fairview and University of Minnesota Physicians, and Twin Cities Heart & Lung.


Insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota today named Fairview Southdale Hospital and University of Minnesota Medial Center as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care in 2009. The hospitals met the criteria by having better overall outcomes for patients and for consistency of care over time. Hospitals recognized as " Blue Distinction Centers " provide a full range of cardiac care services, including inpatient cardiac care, cardiac rehabilitation, coronary angioplasties and open-heart surgery.
