Hearing Care for all ages
If you have decreased hearing, ringing in the ears or a felling of ear fullness, your provider may order a hearing test by an audiologist. A complete diagnostic hearing test can show if you need to: monitor your hearing, a hearing aide, another assertive device medical treatment or surgery.

Hearing tests for infants and children
Our audiologists have experience in caring for infants and children. We use age-appropriate testing methods to determine your child's hearing health. We provide additional testing for infants who do not pass the hospital hearing screening. If your baby doesn’t pass the testing or if he/she has additional risk factors for hearing loss, we will refer you for additional testing at the Lions Children’s Hearing and ENT clinic. The Lions clinic is located on the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital campus in Minneapolis.

Waking up to the sounds of a new day

For Mary Ann Thompson, the cochlear implants she received from the University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview were life-changing in ways she had not even imagined.

"My name is Mary Ann. I have bilateral cochlear Americas inplants. Both were input by Dr. Meredith Adams, my incredible doctor at the University of Minnesota Medical Center - Fairview, the first in 2011  and the second in 2012. This was the most important decision I ever made.

All my adult life I was hard of hearing. People were always having to get my attention for me to hear them. I could not use the phone as I couldn't understand what people were saying. Never had a conversation in a car as I couldn't understand the people.

I never realized how wonderful our world sounds! With the awesome help of Sara Oberg, Aural Rehab, Speech Language Pathologist at Fairview, I can now hear at about 85%. The therapy sessions I had with her helped me to understand what sounds I was hearing and to better my speech. Her dedication to helping and guiding me during my learning process was unbelievable. She said I could learn to comprehend what I was hearing with hard work, and she was 100% right.

Did you know that you can hear water drip from the gutters? That cereal really does snap, crackle and pop! That a kitchen clock tick-tocks. Or have you hear the amazing sounds of birds as they are chattering? Incredible, awesome, amazing. Life with my implants is now full of fun and adventures that I can do on my own; I have increased the potential of my life a hundredfold. My only wish is that I had done this ten years ago.

I love my implants and cannot wait to get up in the morning and put them on. Here I come, wonderful life!

If you are considering implants, make the best decision of your life--do it! You will never be sorry you did."
