For Parents: Is Your Child’s Asthma Under Control?

How can you tell if your child’s treatment is working? If you answer “yes” to either of the questions below, your child’s asthma may not be in control. If the treatment isn’t working, don’t give up! With the right plan, asthma can be controlled. Work with your child’s health care provider to improve the plan. Discuss any problems that make it hard for you or your child to stick to the plan. Almost any problem can be solved.

Does your child need to use his quick-relief inhaler more than 2 times a week (other than before exercise)? If the answer is yes, talk to your child’s health care provider.

Does your child wake up at night with symptoms more than 2 times a month? If the answer is yes, talk to your child’s health care provider.
