Leadership

Mark A. Eustis, president and chief executive officer
Mark is responsible for moving Fairview toward achieving our mission of meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients and their families, and improving the health of the communities we serve. He is focused on realizing our vision of being the best health care delivery system for America, in partnership with the University of Minnesota. Mark joined Fairview in August 2007 from Ascension Health in St. Louis, MO., where he was president of Regional Ministry Operations, overseeing hospitals and related health care services in multiple markets across the country. Prior to that, he served BJC HealthCare as senior executive officer and was an adjunct faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis. He also served in roles of increasing responsibility at the Detroit Medical Center and St. John Health in Detroit, Mich.  A native of Minnesota, Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in hospital and health care administration from the University of Minnesota. He has been active in national and local health care-related organizations, including the American Hospital Association, American College of Health Care Executives, Minnesota Hospital Association and Premier. In addition, Mark has worked with community groups, including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, United Way, March of Dimes, Faith in the City, Project Itasca, Boy Scouts of America and Augsberg College.

Gordon L. Alexander, Jr., MD, regional president, central region
Gordy leads operations in Fairview’s central region, which includes University of Minnesota Medical Center, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital and hospital-based clinics. In addition, he is responsible for developing and integrating Fairview’s cancer services and mothers’ and children’s services and leading laboratory services across the organization. Gordy joined Fairview in 1980 as an Ob/Gyn with Southdale Obstetrics and Gynecology, P.A. He later became Fairview’s senior medical director, serving as chief medical officer for Fairview’s clinics and for clinic merger and acquisitions. Gordy earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Minnesota and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He served as a fellow in St. Thomas University’s Physician Leadership College in St. Paul, and serves on the boards of several health care and community organizations such as University of Minnesota Physicians, The Minnesota Health Ethics Center, the University HealthSystem Consortium Governing Board of Directors, the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems Administrative Board (American Association of Medical Colleges) and the National Patient Safety Foundation Board of Governors.

Daniel K. Anderson, regional president, north region
With more than 20 years of health care leadership experience, Dan leads Fairview’s north region, which includes Fairview Northland, Fairview Lakes and Fairview Maple Grove medical centers. Dan’s responsibilities also extend to Fairview’s retail pharmacies and imaging, orthopaedics and rehabilitation services. Dan has held multiple positions with Fairview since 1979, leading initiatives for Fairview’s hospitals, long-term care, clinics, behavioral health, complimentary medicine and continuum of care networks. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from St. Olaf College and master’s degrees in educational administration and health care administration from the University of Minnesota. Dan is active on several boards, including Fairview Lakes Health Services, Institute of Athletic Medicine, Fairview Pharmacy Services and the University of Minnesota Health Care Administration Alumni. He also is a member of the American Hospital Association and the American College of Health Care Executives.

Terry Carroll, PhD, senior vice president for transformation and chief information officer
Terry is leading transformation across Fairview by partnering with clinicians to achieve exceptional clinical outcomes, drive performance around key organizational goals and strategies and support Fairview’s care model redesign. In addition, Terry is leading Fairview’s information technology and services. Prior to joining Fairview in 2008, Terry  worked for Maverick Health Care Consulting. He also was chief operating officer of Premier Sourcing Partners, vice president and chief information officer of Detroit Medical Center and vice president of information services and chief information officer at Baystate Health Systems in Springfield, Mass. Earlier in his career, Terry served in multiple leadership roles with Magee-Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. A native of New England, Terry earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, VT., and master’s and doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

George Chresand, JD, senior vice president and general counsel
George develops Fairview’s overall legal strategy and leads Fairview’s ethical adherence to federal and state law and health care public policy. George oversees Fairview's legal, clinical research and governance functions and is Fairview’s Institutional Official for Research. His responsibilities previously included tax, privacy, internal audit and compliance. Prior to joining Fairview in 1993, George was in private legal practice and worked as a merger and acquisitions consultant. In addition, he has taught health law at Hamline Law School and at the University of St. Francis. A graduate of the College (now University) of St. Thomas, St. Paul, and the University of Minnesota Law School, Minneapolis, George is a member of the Minnesota Bar, American Health Lawyers Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. George chairs the Metropolitan Healthcare Partnership Board, is on the PreferredOne Community Health Plan Board of Directors and on the Internal Revenue Services’ Great Lakes Area Tax Exempt and Governmental Entities Council.

Bobbi Daniels, MD, chief medical officer, University of Minnesota Physicians
As liaison between Fairview, University of Minnesota Physicians (UMPhysicians) and the University of Minnesota, Bobbi optimizes our partnerships to further our vision. She oversees the clinical care delivered by more than 650 physicians within the integrated group practice for the University of Minnesota Medical School full-time faculty. She also is responsible for the operation of UMPhysicians-owned and -managed ambulatory clinics and helped develop a new care model to provide convenient access to world-class specialists in a patient-centered environment at Fairview Maple Grove Medical Center. Daniels, a professor of medicine and past vice chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Medicine, came to the university in 1981 as an intern in the Department of Medicine. She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash., and a doctorate of medicine degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. Bobbi completed her internal medicine residency and a nephrology fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She has served on several community boards and committees, including the American Heart Association’s Minnesota affiliate board of directors, American Diabetes Association’s Grant Committee and as chair of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Medical Science Review Committee.

Mark D. Dixon, regional president, south region
Mark’s two decades of health care leadership are key in his role bridging services to provide seamless, consistent care for our patients. Mark provides operational leadership for Fairview’s south region, which includes Fairview Southdale and Fairview Ridges hospitals, as well as cardiovascular services across the organization. He joined Fairview in 2008 from Community Hospitals of Indiana, Inc. (CHI) where he was president and chief executive overseeing three Indianapolis metro hospitals. Prior to that, Mark held numerous positions of increasing responsibility over his 18 years with the Allina Health System including chief executive of Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Mark earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and master’s of hospital and health care administration degree from the University of Minnesota. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and he also has been active in several other health care-related organizations’ boards, including the Sister Kenny Foundation, LifeLink III, Children's HeartLink and The Cardiology Roundtable. He also was active in several community boards such as the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Indianapolis YMCA Board and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee.

John G. Doherty, regional president, Range and Red Wing region
John’s health care leadership experience and extensive background with Fairview help our organization bridge our continuum of care in the Greater Minnesota area. He is responsible for regional operations and development within Fairview. John returned to Fairview in 2008 after serving as chief financial officer, system senior executive and chief operating officer for MeritCare Health System in Fargo, N.D. Prior to that, he was vice president of finance at Riverside Medical Center (now University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview), where he also served as interim chief executive officer. John earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwest State University in Marshall, Minn. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants. John serves as treasurer of the Lifelink III board of directors. He is also on the leadership team and treasurer of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School in Burnsville.

James M. Fox, senior vice president and chief financial officer 
With 30-plus years of leadership and financial expertise, Jim leads efforts to successfully shape Fairview’s financial performance. His areas of responsibility are supply chain, capital acquisition, forecast and budget, revenue cycle, accounting, investments, cash management, tax, reimbursement  and pricing. In addition to his financial responsibilities, Jim is responsible for managing purchaser and payer relationships, as well as negotiation of managed care contracts. He has held several roles of increasing responsibility since joining Fairview as a senior accountant in 1976. Jim earned a bachelor of science degree from St. Cloud State University. He serves on several boards, including PreferredOne, the Finance Committee of American Excess Insurance Exchange, Associated Medical Assurance Ltd., Maple Grove Hospital and Fairview Pharmacy Services and is a member of several finance-related organizations, including the Minnesota Hospital Association’s Finance Committee, the Hospital Financial Management Association and the Healthcare Academy Chief Finance Officer Group. 

Mark Hansberry, vice president, strategic planning, marketing and communications
Mark leads business and marketing planning that supports Fairview’s position for strategic growth. His work focuses on improving organizational performance through effective brand management. Mark’s areas of responsibility include strategy, marketing and public relations, internal communications, community health, Fairview Press, National Institute on Media on the Family, Spiritual Health Services and Clinical Pastoral Education. Prior to joining Fairview in 2002, Mark was the marketing director at Children’s Hospital Boston, where he led the development and execution of an integrated branding strategy for the hospital and 35 franchises. He also led market share, patient volume and product development initiatives at Advocate Health Care in Chicago. Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and human resources from Boston College and a master’s of business administration degree in marketing management from the University of Minnesota. He serves on the PreferredOne Community Health Plan Board of Directors.

Paula H. Phillippe, chief human resources officer
Paula is responsible for developing and articulating Fairview’s human resources vision. She is responsible for all aspects of human resources, including talent recruitment and performance management, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, training and development and human resources administration. Paula joined Fairview in January 2008 from Marquette Financial Companies in Minneapolis, where she was senior vice president, chief human resources and communications officer. In this role, she also provided strategic human resources and communications consultant to the Pohlad family’s other businesses. Prior to that, she held human resources positions with financial services companies RBC Dain Rauscher and Piper Jaffray with increasing responsibility leading to executive vice president and chief administrative officer at RBC Dain Rauscher. She also was a human relations and public relations professional at the Fairmount Community Hospital. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in industrial relations. Paula has been active in community organizations, including serving on the boards of the Children’s Theatre Company, the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, the American Heart Association and the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce.

Mark F. Thomas, president of senior services
Mark is responsible for the overall vision, mission and strategic direction of Ebenezer as well as homecare and senior services at Fairview.  His areas of responsibility include management and financial oversight of Ebenezer’s operating entities, including skilled-nursing facilities, assisted living, senior housing, management and marketing services, campus development and church relations. He oversees Fairview Homecare and Hospice, Fairview Partners and senior services. Prior to joining Ebenezer in 1988 as president and chief executive officer, Mark was vice president of operations for Rehabilitative Specialists and regional director of operations for Beverly Enterprises, both in Minneapolis.  Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and master’s of business administration degree from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Mark continued post-graduate work in long-term care administration at the University of Minnesota and holds a nursing facility administrators license in the state of Minnesota. Mark was chair of the Minnesota Health and Housing Alliance (MHHA) and member of the organization’s executive committee. He chaired MHHA’s government affairs steering committee and served as a member of the imperative steering committee. Mark was also an American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging delegate and National Chronic Care Consortium board member. Mark was the recipient of the 2005 Carl Plateau Courageous Leadership Award given by Fairview Health Services.
